Karen Bard.

“It’s as  much a privilege as  it is rewarding to put the knowledge and skills from my own career to supporting passionate start up founders  forge their own successful paths”

I have built a strong foundation of board experience serving on not-for-profit, government and professional association boards and committees. I have recently joined the board of Gas Sensing Technology that provides services into the resource industries for CO2 detection and reduction. It is an award winning company that was recognized in the Fastest Growing Company as #88 in 2013.

More recently, I have been appointed as Chair of the Advisory Board to Cogniom, in Brisbane Australia. This is an exciting new start-up that has innovated the ‘time in motion’ space for analyzing human process efficiencies. While the experience of its executives is based in the medical industry, their product has already garnered the attention of a number of other industries as well. This company truly has the potential to be a disruptor and I am proud to help them on their journey.

In 2016 I stepped down as Chairman of a NFP I helped guide to substantial growth including the development of new services. During my tenure it grew from a $1 million business to a $10 million business through the most transformational policy changes in the history of Australia. It has been very successful in navigating the NDIS while improving its quality of service delivery as attested to in both audit results and client survey results. I am most proud of improvements to deliver services to some of the most vulnerable people in the State, demonstrated by our ‘better than others in our sector’ performance on all four external and independent audits.

As part of the leadership for the AWISE (Australian Women in IT, Science and Engineering) organization I had an integral role in growth and transformation . But the development of a Cornerstone Program for the development of women within the Technology sector was the most important. I am respected for my enthusiasm and professionalism in the board room. One co-member has commented ‘Karen has the rare ability to distill complex technology issues down to those, from a Governance perspective, that really matter.’ I will bring these credentials and my skills in technology, corporate strategy, risk management and governance to your board.
